Roles in HR and leadership
Throughout my Navy career, I have served in administrative and leadership roles that directly support Human Resource Management functions. As an Administrative Leading Petty Officer (LPO), I supervised and mentored Sailors while overseeing personnel administration, awards, evaluations, correspondence, and career-related processes. I have also supported workforce readiness by managing personnel programs, ensuring policy compliance, and providing guidance to Sailors throughout their careers. These roles have strengthened my leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills while reinforcing my passion for developing people and supporting organizational success.
Key accomplishments and impact
One of my proudest accomplishments has been leading administrative and personnel operations that directly supported mission readiness and Sailor development. Throughout my career, I have streamlined personnel processes, ensured the accurate and timely completion of awards, evaluations, correspondence, and administrative actions, and mentored junior Sailors in their professional growth. I have also helped solve personnel challenges by providing guidance on Navy policies, improving administrative efficiency, and ensuring Sailors received the support they needed to advance their careers. These experiences strengthened my ability to solve problems, lead teams, and use strategic HR practices to improve both employee outcomes and organizational effectiveness.
Lessons and skills for HR
These experiences taught me the importance of effective communication, adaptability, ethical decision-making, and servant leadership. I learned that successful HR professionals must balance organizational objectives with the needs of employees while building trust through integrity and accountability. My military experience also strengthened my ability to solve complex problems, lead diverse teams, manage change, and make informed decisions under pressure.
